These are the Painted Hills in the John Day Fossil Beds. The colors and textures here are almost unreal with the layers of exposed clay infused with different minerals. That addition of wild flowers blooming in the creases and hillsides were an added bonus to this beautiful place.
If you do visit here or any of the other places within the John Day Fossil Beds be sure to stay on the designated trails. Some of the surfaces are very fragile. It was sad to see some of the Painted Hills and the Painted Cove marked up by foot prints of inconsiderate people.
